What a night! We took Sasha out for a walk around 8:15, and the beauty of the evening took my breath away. The sky was dark blue, lit up by the last bit of sun that had disappeared below the horizon a half hour earlier. The green-black silhouettes of trees swayed all around us, some with tiny, unopened buds and others already sporting branches full of leaves. Every now and then, a strategically placed street lamp lit up a Magnolia or Redbud, and windchimes tinkled in the breeze.
I was ready to float up and down each hill in the neighborhood, savoring every bit of this gift of Virginia springtime before summer swallows us up. I pushed us onward, block after block, coaxing the kids to go just one more…and then another. When they were ready to stage a revolt, I agreed to turn back toward home. I seem to be finding myself wondering if these days and evenings are more stunning this year. Are we having an exceptionally beautiful spring? Maybe it has to do with the peace brought on by the lack of cars and constant drone of airplanes flying overhead. I think this whole crazy experience is forcing us to slow down and appreciate what’s good in our lives.
