Rainy Day

It’s raining here on our last full day on Chincoteague Island. The storm rolled in around 8:00 last night, sending Sasha into bouts of heavy panting, pacing, huddling, and drooling.

As we ate a late dinner on the screened-in back porch last night, an occasional lightning bolt lit up the marshes and bay a light purple against the far-off tree line.

The rain has provided a nice break in the routine. Instead of numerous rounds of Spades late into the night, we all decided to call it an early night.

After a delicious breakfast of omelets (courtesy of my brother-in-law), cantaloupe from the island farmers market, and Edwin’s favorite biscuits from that package that bursts open when pressed with a spoon, Chris and I saw a break in the rain and rushed to put in our paddle boards. Before we made it to the end of the dock, the rain began again in earnest.

Oh well, I guess relaxing with a book isn’t the worst thing in the world.
